Bret Engemann threw an yard touchdown pass to Gabriel Reid with left in the fourth quarter to cap the comeback. Matt Payne's extra point put the Cougars ahead for the first time in the game.
Utah State seemed in complete control when cornerback Jerome Dennis returned an interception 75 yards on the last play of the second quarter to give the Aggies a lead.
Engemann's pass intended for David Christensen hung up in the air, and Dennis stripped the ball from him the wide receiver and zigzagged across the field for a touchdown. But the Cougars held Utah State scoreless the entire second half, and Brown began the comeback with a 1-yard touchdown run on the opening drive of the third quarter.
Four minutes later, Brown ran 32 yards for another score. Engemann completed 26 of 43 passes for yards and a touchdown.
On the winning drive, he hit Toby Christensen with a yard pass on 3rd-and to put the Cougars at the Utah State yard line. Aggies running back James Samuel scored a yard touchdown in the second quarter, the school's longest run since -- when Glen Crawford went 78 yards against New Mexico State.
School officials hope to find a conference home for the Aggies since the Big West disbanded as a football league two years ago.
